Maison de Maurice is a cottage full of french charm.
In 2011 we were given the privilege of buying this charming old farm cottage, dating from 1599! Although in a very poor state of repair, we immediately saw the potential of the cottage and we truly wanted to restore it to its former charming self. We hope you agree when you see what all our hard work has achieved!
Maison de Maurice, paired with our other gites – Chez Aline and the Old Goat Shed really makes Bois Mort the perfect destination for family get-togethers, but all the gites are also sufficiently independent to ensure complete privacy.
There is also space for the children to burn off that bit of extra energy in the separate play area.
The cottage has two bedrooms, one a spacious and bright double, with bed canopy, hand painted furniture, beautiful
old beams and a view over the hamlet and surrounding countryside. The second bedroom is a twin, but easily configured to a double. Once again a bright and airy room, with beautiful old beams and a countryside view. Staying on the upper floor, you will find the large shower-room, with multi-jet shower, electric towel rail, illuminated sink cabinet with oodles of storage and WC.
On the ground floor you will find the kitchen and lounge
with dining area.
The cottage boasts a charming hand-painted kitchen, with as you would expect, all the modern conveniences to make your holiday as easy as possible. You will find a dishwasher and onsite laundry facilities, electric cooker and oven, fridge-freezer, microwave and all the pots, pans, utensils, crockery and glasses you could wish for to cook up a storm!
The light and spacious lounge has at its heart an old charentaise fireplace. Fitted with a log burning stove, with all firewood supplied (free of charge). There is seating a plenty on the two comfortable sofas. We supply, for your entertainment, satellite TV (free to air UK channels), a DVD player and Conrad Ipod dock. There is internet/wifi, so you can stream music from your own devices. As well as all this, you will find books, games and DVDs at your disposal. In the corner of the lounge is a large dining table where you can enjoy all the gastronomic feasts you’ve created from your local finds!
Moving outside you have the option of two of your own spaces to relax. The south facing garden has at its centre a large banana palm, a shady spot to sit under during the heat of summer. The establishing garden is ringed with grapevines, roses and geraniums – a true oasis to sit and take in the countryside.
At the rear of the cottage you have a decked area with pergola, BBQ, table and chairs. Surrounded by flowers, herbs and a tomato patch, with views into the orchard and surrounding countryside. An idyll to while away the evening with a glass of something local and chilled!
Just at the bottom of the orchard, up the old oak beam stairs you will find the above ground heated swimming pool, with open views over the countryside – a real relief on those hot days. We also supply sun chairs and a picnic bench for additional relaxation and alfresco dining. For the grown ups, a real treat a Swedish log burning hot tub which is perfect for spring and autumn weather when the evenings are less balmy, but also a great benefit after cycling and walking all the routes on our doorstep.
